Conrado Astrande, 96, of Hilo died Sept. 15 at home. Born in Dolores Abra, the Philippines, he was a retired welder for the former Puna Sugar Co., a cook on Kwajalein and member of Orchid Isle Ballroom Dance Club and Philippines Dance Club. Visitation 5:30-9 p.m. Friday (Sept. 30) at Ballard Family Mortuary. Service at 7 p.m. Visitation again 9-10 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 1) at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau. Eleu Lanakila Waipahe Keanaaina Niau, 2, of Waimea died Sept. 17 at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu. He was born in Snellville, Ga. Private family memorial service and scattering of ashes Tuesday (Sept. 27). Survived by parents, Alfred “Keli‘i” and Cosima “Malia” Niau; brothers, Jacob “Makaniolu” Schwartz and Waiolu Niau; sister, Taylor “Lokelani” Schwartz; grandparents, Vern “Range” and CherylAnn “Pua‘ala” Niau of Waimea and Richard Pascua of Kailua-Kona; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Irene Betty Pacheco, 93, of Hilo died Sept. 16 at home. Born in Laupahoehoe, she was a retired teacher’s aide for Kaumana Drive Baptist Church Keikiland Preschool and member of Church of the Holy Cross. Shizuo “Larry” Sumida, 91, of Pepeekeo died Sept. 10 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired electrical superintendent for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Hilo Coast United Church of Christ, past treasurer and board member of Hamakua Coast Federal Credit Union and Masonic Lodge Freemason, who became a Shriner and completed the Scottish Rite.
